Teaching and research interests
Anthropology and sociology of Japan and South Korea, comparative education and social welfare, anthropology of children.
Professor Roger Goodman lectures on contemporary Japanese society, on welfare and education, and on anthropological theory. He is the author, co-author, and editor of many books and has supervised over twenty successful doctoral dissertations in these fields since 1995. His main research interests lie in the education and social welfare systems of modern Japan. In 2002-3 he carried out research on the Japanese university system and the reforms that are currently being attempted within it.
