The Journal
A journal called Durkheim Studies/Etudes Durkheimiennes had been published for seven years by R.A. Jones in the University of Illinois and was the only periodical exclusively concerned with publishing material relating to Durkheim and the Année Sociologique group. In the autumn of 1995 its editor announced that he wished to give up the journal and asked the Centre to take it over. Willie Watts Miller became the Editor and Bill Pickering, the Assistant Editor, along with Ken Thompson (Open University, Mike Gane (Loughborough University) and Sue Stedman (formerly of Goldsmith’s College, London), who form the editorial board. It was decided that the journal, now to be called Durkheimian Studies/Etudes Durkheimiennes (n.s.) would include articles and also reviews, which Jones had not accepted as a matter of principle. The first issue appeared in January 1996 and is now published in conjunction with Berghahn Press who undertake all the administration of the journal. The contents of each volume remains entirely in the hands of the Editors. Its global circulation is about 230. At the end of 2011 it had reached Volume 17.
